Rancho Santa Fe Private Estate Wedding

We love photographing unique events like this Rancho Santa Fe Private Estate Wedding! Amanda and Arash first met at Cathedral Catholic High School and shared their first kiss in front of Arash’s locker. Little did they know that years after falling in love at school, they would be getting married just across campus at St. Therese Chapel! We had a ton of fun re-creating their first kiss at the exact same locker on their wedding day. :) Their easy-going personalities and undeniably steamy chemistry made it sooo much fun to shoot with them!! Arash’s parents generously opened their amazing home to guests as a reception venue. The views over San Dieguito Lagoon looking all the way out to the ocean were breathtaking, and work had just finished on their 10-year remodel which included a gorgeous pool area inspired by the Hearst Castle. It was truly remarkable to watch the sun set from such a beautiful place.

As a very serious hobbyist photographer, I vetted the portfolios of over 2 dozen photographers in the So Cal area over a month before finally selecting Acqua. I felt Acqua’s unique ‘fantasy’ style of photography was perfectly matched for a wedding shoot. Their exposure is nicely boosted and highlights are mastered beautifully to create a dream-like scene with plenty of glow and energy in every photo, exactly how I would like to remember the best day of my life. They LOVE to use lens flare and warm tones with a ton of bokeh (background blur) to create seriously stunning gallery grade shots. Normally, photographing into direct sunlight and using lens flare has its risks of creating haze and contrast issues in photos, and the fact that Acqua masters these photos in not just an artistic but in a technical sense really says something about their abilities. There were a few instances of chromatic aberration in certain cases during the high noon shots (hard to avoid) but it was never anything that took away from the photo. Their camera gear is superb, using only the highest end canon lenses with amazingly wide apertures to make sure every shot has a very creamy background blur and incredible sharpness (in case you know photography, they only use L lenses on a 5D MK III body). Their wide angle shots never have distortion (this is VERY important when looking for photographers.. some use fish eye lenses with completely unmanaged distortion that ruins the shot in my opinion). Jen and Shane make a great duo and have two very different methods of directing shots. Jen uses her intoxicating energy to bring out the best possible poses and reactions to make the optimal shot. Shane follows her lead most of the time, but will manage the scene in a more direct way. I feel like this combination is PERFECT in providing the most organic photos possible. I have been in many weddings and have never had more natural directors than Jen and Shane.
